Karl Schnabel crafts his delicious wines from steep slopes around the Sausal Mountain in Styria. Karl is one of the few winemakers who can truly state that his vineyards have never even seen chemicals. They are officially certified Biodynamic by Demeter since 2003 and are part of S.A.I.N.S., meaning not only no added S02 but no added anything! In both the vineyard and the cellar, everything is done by hand. Plantings are Zweigelt, Blaufrankisch, Morillon, Rheinriesling and Pinot Noir. All cuvées undergo skin contact through the duration of fermentation, meaning that white wines are always 'orange'. They are further aged in old 220L Burgundy barrels.
