Casa de Mouraz

In the year 2000, Antonio Ribiero Lopez and his wife abandoned their trade in urban Lisbon and headed back to Antonio's birthplace, Mouraz, in the heart of Dão. Here, his ancestors have farmed the land organically for generations, gaining official organic status in the late 90's and later biodynamic status in '06. At Casa de Mouraz, old and new vines mix with pine, chestnut, cork trees, and an abundance of other forest wildlife. Varieties are all local; Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Alfrocheiro, Jaen, Baga and Água-Santa for the red wines, and Malvasia-Fina, Bical, Cerceal, Encruzado and Alvarinho for the whites. Antonio doesn't take their biodynamic practices lightly. Being avid followers of the teachings of Rudolph Steiner, cow manure and quartz are applied to the vines; in fact every action is in accordance with the lunar calendar.
